Marginal Plants

Marginal plants are often planted on special marginal shelves around the edge of the pond, about 9 inches below the water. Some marginals, like the Japanese Rush (Acorus gramineus) are valued just for their foliage while others, such as the water plantain (Alisma plantago-aquatica) provide both flowers and foliage.
